Nael
G. Bunni is a Chartered Engineer, Registered Chartered Arbitrator
and Conciliator. He is currently Visiting Professor at Trinity College,
Dublin University. He is Past President of the Association of Consulting
Engineers of Ireland, Past Chairman of the Irish Branch of the Chartered
Institute of Arbitration and Past President of the Chartered Institute
of Arbitrators.
At
present, he is a member of the Board of Directors of the London
Court of International Arbitration; and a member of various groups
of the Commission on International Arbitration of the International
Chamber of Commerce, Paris and its for a including the Forum on
ADR; the Construction Arbitration Section of the Forum on 'Arbitration
and New Fields'; and the Working Party on Turnkey Transactions of
the Commission on International Commercial Practice.
In
1999, Dr Bunni was elected a Fellow of the Irish Academy of Engineering
and in March 2000 he was elected a member of the International Council
for Commercial Arbitration, 'ICCA'. Dr Bunni has been involved in
many civil and structural engineering projects in Ireland and abroad.
He has won a number of professional awards for his work in engineering
design and in dispute resolution. He is past Chairman of FIDIC's
Standing Committee on Professional Liability and FIDIC's Task Committee
on Construction, Insurance and Law. At
present he is a member or chairman of a number of technical committees
in Ireland and internationally.
He
has acted as arbitrator, conciliator/mediator or DAB in forty seven
jurisdictions, having been appointed arbitrator in over ninety-five
cases of dispute with values up to £450 million, either as
sole arbitrator or as a member of a tribunal or as a chairman of
an arbitral tribunal. Many of these appointments were under the
ICC Rules of Arbitration; the UNCITRAL Arbitration rules; the LCIA
Arbitration Rules; or the Rules of the Cairo Regional Centre for
International Commercial Arbitration. Over fifty-five of these cases
have led to written and published awards. Dr Bunni is the author
of a large number of technical papers and three books: 'Construction
Insurance and the Irish Conditions of Contract'; Construction Insurance',
now in its second edition under the title, 'Risk & Insurance in
Construction'; and The FIDIC Form of Contract', now in its second
edition. He has lectured extensively and has been invited to speak
in many countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America.
